Here's how other kids have helped the food bank...
What
A
GREAT
Birthday
Gift!
Emily wanted to do
something different for
her 9th birthday so she
decided to skip the big
party and instead, threw a
food drive to collect food
for kids and others who
are hungry in the
community. She asked her
friends to bring
non-perishable food items
to school and add them to
the collection for
Northern Illinois Food
bank. She personally
delivered the donations to
NIFB in St. Charles the
Saturday before her
birthday. She made a party
of it by bringing a few
friends and family
members. The greatest gift
Emily received for her 9th
birthday was knowing that
she made a difference by
helping to feed hungry
neighbors and maybe even
by making another child's
birthday special by
providing some much needed
food. NIFB congratulates
Emily on her generosity!
Eagle Scout Project HUGE Success!
With the devastation created by Hurricane Katrina, Max
T. was set into motion. As Max began to prepare for his Eagle Scout
project, he knew he had an opportunity to make a difference - a big one.
He began by taking a tour of NIFB in St. Charles to
find out how the operation worked and who benefited from the organization.
He planned a 10-pronged approach, which included a number of dedicated
volunteers, grocery stores, drug stores, schools, and other locations where
items could be donated to benefit those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Max's
hurricane relief drive ran from 9/23 through 10/6. On Columbus Day, Max and the Wheaton Boy Scouts
delivered the fruit of their work to the food bank and spent the morning
volunteering. The donation weighed in at 5,395 pounds to assist in the
Hurricane Relief efforts!
